I was gone for a few days (5 to be exact). My family had decided that a family vacation was needed because it was not taken during the summer. (we were otherwise occupied :) Nauvoo was chosen as our destination. Jake had school but the girls were on UEA vacation and Megan was finished with her block classes so we went last week, Tuesday- Sunday. I felt really bad leaving Jake by himself, but this was the last vacation our family would have with Megan for a year and a half so I of course wanted to go.
The whole trip was wonderful! Pictures and more details and testimony will come next post, I hope. (I just erased the word, I promise, to quote the south: "I can't make no promises!" haha) Overall however, I was touched by the strength of these early pioneers, especially the women. I was also toughed to see that the Lord knows EXACTLY what he is doing in EVERY PERSON IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD'S LIFE!!! What? How does that happen? I don't know. But it boggles my mind. The Lord was minutely involved with their lives, as He is ours. I am so grateful for this knowledge! I am also so grateful for my ancestors who joined the church in the early days so that I can have my testimony today.
Just one random example I thought of was that Heavenly Father preserved John Taylor not only so he could be one of the next prophets, but also because John was an editor he wrote very well, and (i think) the Lord wanted HIM to write his testimony about Joseph Smith to the world (D&C 135). Of course this is my own opinion about why John Taylor was not killed in Carthage Jail, but I think it has some merit. That is just one example of how the Lord knows us and loves us so much, and how as we follow Him, we will be provided for and blessed! Ahh! Love it!
But, when I got back home yesterday, i didn't want to let Jake go. LOVE HIM. It's crazy how much 5 days without seeing each other, made us love and appreciate one another so much! haha.
Look up this scripture: Philippians 4:6-7. It is beautiful. Pay close attention to the footnote on verse 6. LOVE! This whole chapter is incredible.
I love family history. We are the new family history consultants. We don't really know anything yet, so please don't ask us any questions. BUT soon i hope to know much more about family history and how to do it.
I was thinking that if I had known you were going to be in Nauvoo then I totally would have driven there to hang out with you guys! And then I looked up how long the drive would have been for me and it's like 12 hours and then I wasn't so mad that I didn't think of it earlier. :) I'm excited to see pictures. Love you!
